Did you know there’s a remake of the classic film Sparkle in the works? The Queen’s Castle featured Mike Epps and Whitney Houston on set in our “Picture of the Day” feature a few weeks ago…
Currently filming in Detroit, Sparkle will feature an updated script written by Mara Brock Akil, executive producer of Girlfriends and The Game, and directed by her husband, Salim Akil. Encouraged by his previous cinematic success with Jumpin’ the Broom and Not Easily Broken, pastor and author T.D. Jakes will produce the film with Martin Chase and Curtis Wallace.

The cast stars Carmen Ejogo (Lackawanna Blues), Tika Sumpter (The Game) and American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks as the Williams’ sisters who are chasing their dream of stardom. They will appear alongside Cee-Lo Green, Derek Luke (Antwon Fisher), Mike Epps (Next Friday), Omari Hardwick (For Colored Girls), and Whitney Houston returns to the screen as the Williams’ sisters Mother.

Last night, Whitney and Jordin appeared on Entertainment Tonight to talk about the remake. Whitney looks fabulous…
Sparkle is one of my favorite movies of all-time. It’s up there with Imitation of Life and The Wiz! Whitney’s return to the big screen is going to be awesome too. She’s also slated to appear in the screen adaptation of Terry McMillan’s Getting to Happy, the sequel of Waiting to Exhale.
Check out the entire cast listing, here. Will you go see Sparkle when it hits theaters in 2014?
