Last night, sisters Erica and Tina Campbell, better known as award-winning gospel group, Mary Mary, debuted their reality show on WEtv.
In the premiere episode, Giving Thanks, Erica and Tina allow a candid behind-the-scenes look at their personal and professional lives. Many were introduced to Erica’s husband, Warryn Campbell, who is the group’s producer and Tina’s husband,Teddy, a drummer on The Tonight Show; they are not blood related, but share the same last name and are members of the gospel group, the Soul Seekers. We also meet Mary Mary’s Mom, Miss Honey, manager, Mitch as well as stylist, Thomasina “GooGoo” Atkins, their sister.
The Queen’s Castle saw WEtv cameras following Tina at this year’s Stellar Awards, where Mary Mary won Contemporary Group/Duo of the Year and Group Duo of the Year. She walked the carpet with husband Teddy, representing while Erica rested…

…due to the premature contractions we saw her deal with on last night’s episode. The group’s manager, Mitch, provides just enough drama, we weren’t five minutes into the show before he shared his feelings towards GooGoo.

He and GooGoo were both in the press room at the Stellar Awards, where she shared her inspiration behind the styles for Mary Mary, revealed other celebrities she’s worked with, a few of her favorite designers and gave her advice to aspiring stylists.
In addition to seeing the interesting relationship dynamics between GooGoo and Mitch, we get to see how Erica and Tina manage their hats as wives, mothers and performers.

The episode centers around Mary Mary’s preparation to attend a Thanksgiving performance in Atlanta, the group’s largest market.
In this season of Mary Mary, we’ll likely get to see the scoop behind their decision to cancel their tour, their Stellar Award wins and the birth of Erica’s new daughter, Zaya Monique (probably the season finale). Tina’s birth announcement was fairly recent, so depending on the production cut off we may see that too…
In comparison to other shows it was refreshing to see Mary Mary shatter common stereotypes about African-American families. Mary Mary’s new reality show airs on WETV Thursday’s at 9pm/8pm CST. If you’re interested in finding out more about GooGoo visit her website.
What did you think about Mary Mary’s reality show? Will you be tuning for more “Family, Fame and Chaos? Can they get an Amen?!”
